Ken Norton, Sr. Volunteer Senior Planned Giving Officer
After serving Southern Adventist University as Director for Development for over 8 years, Ken decided to join the ranks of the retired community in 2004. Like many retirees, Ken and his wife Sherry made plans to enjoy their golden years while continuing their ministry of serving others. Unexpectedly, Sherry developed an illness which created the need to relocate to Florida so they could be near their son and family. One and a half years later, she lost her battle with cancer.
Ken decided to move back to Collegedale with his son and family when Ken Jr., was asked to serve as Associate Pastor at the Collegedale Church, and Julie as Director of Student Missions at Southern Adventist University. Wanting to keep busy, Ken accepted an invitation from Carolyn Liers, Director of Planned Giving, as a Volunteer Senior Planned Giving Officer, on January 2012. "Visiting Southern Alumni and Friends is what I enjoyed most during my years in Development so I knew this would be an opportunity that would be a perfect fit for me," said Ken.
Soon after his move back to Collegedale, a mutual friend introduced Ken to a lovely lady who had also lost her spouse to cancer. They became fast friends and were married on March 11, 2012. Ken and Bonnie both share an interest in volunteering and together they continue their ministry of serving others.
